Cat App - Store Page Visual refresh

Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator

For this project I worked with Caterpillar to provide a refreshed look and feel for their app on the Android and iOS store pages.

These are the three concepts I created and presented to the client. I worked closely with a senior copywriter to develop the concepts and was the lead designer on this project. The client decided to move forward with a combination of concepts 2 and 3, which can be seen live on the cat app store pages for both Android and iOS. For all concepts a seamless background was implemented for users swiping through the imagery.

My role:
- Art direction
- Image creation and visual development
- Client presentation

Concept 1 - On the Job Experience

Here I focused on as-seen screenshots of the app imposed over a job site, where the machine and fleet monitoring features would see their most frequent use. The language and visuals lean into the idea of experiencing the app while on the job.

Concept 2 - One App

Visual metaphors call to a myriad of physical tools an owner/operator might use to manage their machines to communicate that this one app does what you need.

Concept 3 - This is the Cat App

A straightforward concept that highlights the key features of each app screen with clean, clear, 3D pop-out cards.

Final Decision

The client ultimately decided to err on the side of legibility and wanted to minimize the photoshop-heavy effects I applied to concepts 2 and 3, but also wanting to avoid the potential problems associated with region-specific imagery from the first concept. They decided to go with the background and 3D treatment from concept 2 for the first two app screens as a visually-compelling splash screen, and the overall clarity of the language and pop-out cards from concept 3. They also decided to keep their existing app icon.
